webspinners  - intro to web-page design        after-school
Want your own web page?  Check out how you can make your very own web space with your own cool graphics, animations and sounds!  These fun and creative sessions let students explore the inner workings of computers, learn basic graphic art techniques, create their own computer animations and then put all their work onto their very own web-page to show off to their grandparents or friends anywhere in the world!

animation3 - intro to animation techniques        after-school
Explore the world of animation, from Stop-Motion Imagery and Clay-Mation to Vector and 3D Animation.  Students will learn hands-on how these creative processes are used to make some of the TV shows and movies they love and they will create their own short animation clips which they can show off to the world on the Byte Camp website.

sound bytes - intro to digital music production        after-school

Make your own MP3s from scratch on a laptop!  Create a custom virtual drum kit and bang out a cool rhythm track, add some melody and bass tracks using any instrument imaginable and even record your own voice over top of the whole thing.  We’ll even look at some cool DJ tricks like sampling and scratching.  No music experience necessary

lights! computer! action! - video editing and special effects        after-school

Shoot, edit and add Hollywood-style special effects to their own music videos. In this camp students will have a chance to learn the science behind cinema and special effect magic and get to try it all out themselves! They will shoot and edit their own videos, and get to try out advanced effects like 'blue-screen' backgrounds and adding their own computer-generated CGI characters to their films.

flash computer animation (I & II)        1/2 day workshops

Learn how to make things move on a computer screen! Bring your imagination and we'll supply the rest, including cool laptops to work on and software which you can download yourself.  Your completed work will go on the Internet for the whole world to see!

hardware explorers - intro to digital design        1/2 day workshops
Take apart a computer, learn how the insides of a computer work and how a computer thinks.  You'll even get to build a simple computer from scratch using digital circuitry!

stop motion animation        1/2 day workshops
Draw, cut and mold your own characters and take digital pictures of them moving on their own. We'll look at a variety of stop-motion animation techniques like Pixelation, Cel Animation, and Claymation.

3D animation (I & II)        1/2 day workshops
Build you own 3D computer model, just like Shrek or Nemo, and then make it move! We'll look at  lighting, camera angles and animating your model in your 3D computer workspace.  Your completed work will go on the Internet for the whole world to see!

claymation movie production        all-day summer camps
Make you own clay characters come to life, just like Wallace and Gromit!  Participants will get to build their own clay characters, sets and props; develop their own script; shoot their movie scenes; and then learn to edit and add sounds and special effects to complete the whole project.  Don't worry parents, there will be plenty of time devoted to outdoor games and swim time too!

flash video game design        all-day summer camps
Use the web-standard software, Flash, to create your own wacky characters, cool game play and fun levels. Students will start the week making short animated films, and each day new programming skills will be taught to help them make the animations interactive. The final project is a video game that will go on-line! Have a look at www.bytecamp.ca for lots of samples from previous years! Lots of time during the week is devoted to outdoor games too.
